Con la mirada puesta en transformar la música en observaciones teológicas, filosóficas y esotéricas, la banda oscura y mística Jacula se fundó en Milán, en 1968, por el ecléctico filósofo, compositor y guitarrista Antonio Bartoccetti y la ingeniero de sonido experimental Doris Norton.  Antonius Rex llegó más tarde, siendo considerado por la crítica internacional como “la banda más autoritativa del sonido oscuro metálico más profundo”. En Londres, en 1969, la primer realización embriónica fue realizada, sin embargo apenas se imprimieron algunos cientos de ejemplares cuando Travers, el productor, se dio cuenta que sería un trabajo muy difícil de comercializar. Los discos fueron obsequiados a algunos monasterios como un símbolo mágico, y no hubo esfuerzos por distribuir los LP. En 1972, Bartoccetti (vocales, guitarra, bajo), Norton (voz, piano, sintetizador) y Tiring (órgano de iglesia) grabaron el segundo álbum como Jacula. El álbum, aunque cualitativamente válido y en extremo innovador, resultó ser un fracaso comercial. Jacula se deshizo y renació al mismo tiempo como Antonius Rex.

En 1973, durante su servicio militar, Antonio Bartoccetti le dio vueltas al nuevo grupo y un nuevo álbum, mismo que ocupó muchas de las canciones que habían sido compuestas por Norton y él en 1971. Antonius Rex se caracteriza por manifestar un estilo parapsicológico en sus trabajos, incluyendo mensajes esotéricos y protestando contra la contaminación y contra todo tipo de guerra. De entre los álbumes de Antonius Rex, casi todos considerados como álbumes de culto, destacan 'Neque Semper Arcum Tendit Rex' (1974), 'Praeternatural' (1980) y 'Magic Ritual' (2004), lugares desde donde puedes arriesgarte a conocer esta propuesta progresivo-esotérica, si acaso no la conoces ya. Asimismo, en 2006 Antonius Rex realizó el súper álbum 'Switch on Dark', un trabajo composicional que se prolongó por dos años, conceptualizado como una experiencia mística extrema, un sendero para las próximas generaciones. Este álbum presenta seis temas oscuros, entre los que se encuentran el homónimo, el fantástico irreal 'Perpetual adoration' (también incluido en el CD como video), la terrífica 'Darkotic' y la no menos especial 'Fairy vision'.
